Artur Mas: The Right of Catalonia to Decide Its Future

Artur Mas is President of the Catalan European Democratic Party, which has the presidency of the Catalan Government. Mr Mas was a councillor of the Barcelona City Council from 1987 to 1995, acting as the economic affairs spokesman, and spokesman and president of the municipal group of CiU and a member of the Parliament of Catalonia since 1995. He has been Minister for Public Works, Minister for Economy and Finance, Chief Minister of the Government of Catalonia and President of the Government of Catalonia from December 2010 to January 2016. He became the 129th President of the Government of Catalonia. As Leader of his party and as President of Catalonia he has been a key figure in the campaign for increased autonomy for Catalonia and so has come into political and legal conflict with the Madrid government.
